Stand-up comedian and actor Bill Bellamy admits Kurt Cobain wasn’t the kind of “rock star” he was expecting. While sharing stories from his new memoir “Top Billin,’” Bill remembers interviewing the Nirvana frontman at the height of the grunge rock movement.
“People forget that grunge came out of nowhere. This was a different type of sound, different type of vibe, and Nirvana was new. And they were huge; they came out of Seattle on fire,” Bill recalls.
While Bill says he thought Kurt would arrive at the interview wearing a “super sexy, shirt open” kind of outfit, Kurt had on a “thrift store sweater, some old jeans and greasy hair.”
“Dude, did you get dressed for this interview?” Bill jokes.
Bill also remembers Kurt being “so shy,” which he says was wildly different from Kurt’s onstage persona.
“How could this guy be so shy in real life but then you give him a microphone and a song [and] he turns into a superstar?”
