Dick & Mary's Favorite Moments from The Dick Van Dyke Show

*The Dick Van Dyke Show* brought joy and laughter to millions of viewers during its run from 1961-1963. Fans have their favorite moments, but what do stars Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore remember most fondly about the show? "No matter which show it was, it was the singing and dancing that we got to do together," Mary says. "That was always a favorite with me." Dick recalls one of his favorite episodes: "It was called 'Coast to Coast Big Mouth' and it was where Mary let it out that [creator/co-star] Carl Reiner was bald on national television! She was so hysterical in that I'll never forget it. That was, for me, her best show." Mary credits Dick with giving her the confidence to let her comedic side shine. "This man was so good to me," she says, "because I was sort of this punk-nosed little kid coming into this show with such great professionals. But when Carl started writing funny things for me to do, I'd say to Dick, 'I don't know how to do this - what do I do?' And he would say to me, 'Yes you do. You know - don't be afraid,' and he'd smile. He was always encouraging me." Dick and Mary reveal that while taping the show, a comic legend would sneak into the rafters to watch them work. Check out the video above to learn who it was, how the show was on the brink of cancellation, and the story behind the legendary "SOS" book!
