Dr. Phil on What He Believes He Owes Guests Who Come on His Show

Dr. Phil McGraw is officially celebrating 20 years of his "Dr. Phil" show—and Rachael, for one, is not at all surprised! 

That's because, she says, she's witnessed the amount of research the good doc puts into each and every case that comes on his show—something Dr. Phil believes all his guests deserve.

"I think if people are willing to come here and lay this all out for me, I think two things," says Dr. Phil. One? "They deserve for me to have my homework" — homework that includes thorough histories of each patient (Rach has long marveled at the size of his binders!) and reaching out to leading experts on the issues being discussed.

And two? "I don't think they should have to guess at what I think — what I believe," says Phil. "There should be an action plan when they leave. I think I should be very clear. And if what I tell them won't withstand challenge, then throw it out! But they shouldn't have to guess what I think when they leave."
