The Right Order to Apply Skincare Products, According to Rachael's Dermatologist

When it comes to your skincare routine, Rach's dermatologist Dr. Anne Chapas says you don't need more than five products—and ordering them the right way is key.

How to Order Your Skincare

1. Hydrating Cleanser

"The first thing you want to do is cleanse your skin and make sure you're getting a nice even skin complexion by removing the oils and the dirt. Start with a mild hydrating cleaner as your first step," says Dr. Chapas.

2. Eye Cream and Serum

"The eye is the most sensitive part of the face. So, you want to just dab a little bit of eye cream on. Then, you're also going to use your serum because serums are our most concentrated ingredient and they penetrate better into clean skin," she says.

3. Moisturizer

"Next, hydrate your skin with your moisturizer," says Dr. Chapas.

4. Face Oil

"And then you're going to seal that in with your face oil. So, that's a great thing to use right after the moisturizer," she explains.

5. SPF

"Finally, you're going to want to use your SPF as your final step, as long as it's a physical sunscreen that has zinc or titanium dioxide, you can put it on last. If it's a chemical sunscreen it has to be absorbed into the skin and it should be your second step right after your wash," she says.
