Why Your Pet Rabbit Chews Everything—and How to Stop It

Expert vets Dr. Vernard Hodges and Dr. Terrence Ferguson, from Nat Geo WILD's "Critter Fixers: Country Vets," help our viewer with a rabbit named Boujee who won't stop chewing on everything in sight.

"Rabbits have hypsodont teeth meaning they continuously grow, so you have to keep the teeth even and oftentimes we have to trim the teeth," explains Dr. Hodges. By trimming the teeth, you're less likely to have a rabbit that won't stop chewing.

"If you're not able to be with [your rabbit] all the time, something you might want to think about is getting a playpen," Dr. Hodges says. And since rabbits love to dig, getting a box and filling it with dirt will give them a place to dig—plus entertain them with something, so they're not looking for things to chew around your home. So clever!

You can catch more of Dr. Vernard Hodges and Dr. Terrence Ferguson on “Critter Fixers: Country Vets,” Saturdays at 9 PM on Nat Geo WILD, and streaming on Disney Plus.
