Max Lugavere's Genius Foods: 11 Foods For Better Brain Health
After testing out two trending health treatments in NYC, Max Lugavere, science journalist and New York Times best-selling author of Genius Foods and new book The Genius Life: Heal Your Mind, Strengthen Your Body, and Become Extraordinary, showed us how we can incorporate elements of these wellness trends at home.
"Light can be a form of medicine," Max says. "But at the end of the day we want to make sure that we are getting a break from super bright light, because what that does is it tells our brains that it's daytime when it's not."
You want to minimize your exposure to bright light at night in order to keep your circadian rhythm and melatonin release intact — basically so that you can get a better night's sleep, according to Max.
He suggests replacing some of the bright light bulbs in your home with amber-colored night light bulbs. These bulbs can be placed in your bathroom, kitchen or any other place you might frequent if you get up during the night. They're inexpensive and give off a warm glow that isn't too harsh, so as not to disrupt your circadian rhythm.
