Drugstore skincare products can admittedly be hit or miss. And while there are some skincare products that are worth the splurge, most of the items in your daily routine don't need to be expensive.

If you're anything like our viewer, Carrie—who prefers to keep her skin care routine as minimal as possible—you'll love what NYC dermatologist Dr. Michelle Henry has to say.

"You don't need 14 steps to have beautiful skin. When I really think about what's absolutely critical, you need three steps: a good cleanser, a good moisturizer and of course, a fantastic sunscreen," the derm says.

Best Drugstore Cleansers

Cleansers are one place you can really save money, "because you're literally washing them down the drain," Dr. Michelle points out. She shares two of her favorite budget-friendly cleansers that you can find at most drugstores.

CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser

"The common theme here is hydrating, because your cleanser really should cleanse your skin, make it healthy and not [be] super harsh," Dr. Michelle says.

Best Drugstore Moisturizers & Sunscreen

CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen SPF 30

CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen SPF 30

Walgreens
$17

"This is a moisturizer and a sunscreen, so if you're super busy this is the way to go," the dermatologist says. She recommends using SPF 30 daily, but bump it up to SPF 50 if you're going to be outside for more than an hour. The good news is that SPF use on labels is regulated by the FDA, so you should be getting the same results whether you're spending a lot on sunscreen or not.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Dr. Michelle loves this cream because it's "packed full of hydrating ceramides"—lipids that help skin retain moisture.
