"This jazzed up amaretto sour kind of reminds me of the disco era or the early '80s," says John. He created the cocktail, embellished with bourbon, an egg white and bitters, to go with Rach's Spicy Chicken Francese.
Pro Tip from John: If you're ever tempted to buy sweet and sour mix for a cocktail, don't. Just make some simple syrup and combine it with fresh lemon or lime juice. It only takes a few minutes and is so much better!
For the simple syrup, combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat and stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to use.
For the cocktail, combine the amaretto, bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white in a cocktail shaker and dry shake for 10 seconds to froth the egg white. Add ice and shake to chill. Strain into a chilled coupe and top with the bitters, cherry and orange twist.
Always drink responsibly.
Consuming raw egg may increase your risk of foodborne illness.
